John Richard Smith

John Richard Smith, 83, of Thurmont passed away peacefully at Frederick Health Hospital surrounded by family on November 30, 2024. John was born to his parents, Clarence B. and Mamie C. Smith, on February 28, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; his brothers, Raymond, Charles, Carl, and Marion; his sisters, Mary Ellen and Margaret; and his grandsons, Johnny and Daniel Jr. Forrest. He is survived by his sister Mildred; his daughters Pamela and her fiancé Wayne, and Melissa and her husband David; grandchildren Crystal, Ashley and her husband Craig, Erica and her husband Chad, Corey, Damien, Felicity, Dylan, David Jr., and Austin and his wife Lauren; and great grandchildren Justyne, Delanie, Jacky, Brooklyn, James, David, Theron, Emma, Leighton, Isabella, Cameron, and Nora.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed sitting on the porch with friends and family, playing cards with his family on Friday and Saturday nights, fishing on the boat, camping, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. John was loved by everyone that ever came into contact with him and will be missed by us all.

Family and friends may call at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Lewistown Cemetery.
