John Wayne Crummitt, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, in his home in Jefferson, MD. He was born on April 25, 1945, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him in his 78 years of life. John, a hardworking man and roofer of 35 years, owned and operated J. W. Crummitt Roofing and Spouting; his commitment to quality work was mirrored in his everyday life. In 1957, he showcased his love of dance when he won a dance-off on the Milt Grant Show. He loved fishing and boating on the Monocacy River, but above all else, he cherished time spent with his family. His unconditional love for his wife and dedication to raising his grandchildren were testaments to his loving and compassionate spirit. John was always quick with a joke, keeping his loved ones laughing even in challenging times. John is survived by his daughter, Melanie Skeens; grandson, Kyler Skeens, and his wife, Mary; granddaughter, Brandi Skeens; great-grandchildren, Molly and Waylon; and siblings, Albert (Albie) Crummitt, Pauline (Polly) Keeney, Richard (Dickie) Crummitt, and Mary Jane Richardson. He is predeceased by his wife, Ellie Crummitt; parents Mary and James Crummitt Sr.; and siblings James, Frankie, Jerry, and Joanne. John lived a full and vibrant life, touching many with his humor, generosity, and love. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A celebration of John's life will be held at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, on June 14, 2023, with a viewing at 12 PM and a memorial service at 2 PM. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made directly to the family, Melanie Skeens, 26 N. Main St., Boonsboro, MD 21713, to help with final expenses. Any excess will be donated in John’s name to the Frederick County Humane Society and Hospice of Frederick County.
