John David Campbell

August 6, 1941 — November 11, 2024

John David Campbell, 83, of Littlestown, PA, formerly of Frederick, MD, passed away Monday November 11, 2024 at the Frederick Health Hospital. Born in Allentown, PA, and raised in Catasauqua, he was the oldest son of the late Winifred Arlene (nee Weider) and Roy Eugene Campbell.  The beloved husband of the late Jane Elizabeth Scott Campbell, John spent 56 years married to his high school sweetheart.

After moving to Frederick in 1966, John and Jane attended a worship service at Frederick Presbyterian Church. Extremely active in the church for nearly six decades, John served FPC in many capacities – John and Jane taught Sunday School and led Youth Group; they performed with the bell choir and wind ensemble, and served on the Fellowship Committee. John served on the church’s Finance Committee, the Property Committee, and played an instrumental role establishing the original technical infrastructure for the church to record services and distribute tapes to home-bound church members.

John and Jane were devoted members of several community bands: the Yellow Springs Band, the Rohrersville Band, the Harmony Band, the Browningsville Band, the Apple Core Band, and the Littlestown Area Municipal Band. In addition to a shared love of music, Jane and John were equally passionate about community involvement. Together, they worked with the Boy Scouts, the Frederick Keys, and the soup kitchen.

John graduated from East Stroudsburg State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a major in History and minor in Mathematics, then taught Social Studies at Brooklyn Park High School and worked with the Street Club Worker Project in Baltimore.  Upon relocation to Frederick, MD, John began his 35+ year career as a Management Analyst for the Department of Defense.  During this time, John also earned a Master of Science degree in Management from Frostburg State College.  Upon retirement from the federal government, John worked for the City of Frederick with the Community Action Agency.

John is survived by his children Janice E. Gazmen (John), Jon Scott Campbell (Tiffanie), and Jami L. Campbell, his grandchildren Katie, Jeremy, Ian, Daniel, Michael, Nikolas, Zachary (LaDaysha), and Meagan, and his great grandchildren Alexa, Lucas, Micah, Judah, Emmie, Noah, Gavin, Madison Jane, and Ayden. He will also be remembered by his brother Thomas Campbell (Barbara) and niece Jennifer (Joe). In addition to his parents and his wife, John is predeceased by his infant grandson Kristian Scott Gazmen.

John’s memorial service will be held on Friday November 15, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 West 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701.  Immediately following the service, everyone is welcome to gather in the Fellowship Hall for a light luncheon with hearty laughter.
