Joanne R. "Jody" Krantz-Workman

January 4, 1957 — October 12, 2019

Joanne “Jody” Rebecca Krantz-Workman passed away on October 12, 2019, at the age of 62. She continues her journey in peace and with faith after a courageous battle with cancer. She goes forward, as she did in life, sharing her nurturing love, listening ear, guiding instincts, pioneer-woman spirit and soul, mother earth values, open-armed and open-minded friendship, incredible stories, and green thumb with humanity.

Jody was born the second daughter to Jack and Joyce Krantz and raised in Frederick County, Maryland, where she had a great admiration of her ancestry. As a child, she explored the fields of her grandparents’ farm in Jefferson, loved being in the barn caring for the animals with her father, and admired her grandparents, Bockie and Granddaddy, for what they taught her of farming and nurturing the land. She was in awe of Frederick’s mountains and agriculture, celebrated the growth and vitality of the City, took part in making Frederick a home to many, was actively involved in her community and touched so many lives along her way. Jody had a passion for travel, and ventured far and wide. Her suitcase could be packed in a minute for the next adventure. She never failed to make new friends along her way.

Jody leaves behind her husband of six years, Larry Workman, with whom she shared love and laughter, boating and fishing adventures, travels to faraway places, cooking, and gardening at home. Two of her greatest joys were her children. She took great pride in the lives they created for themselves, the kind of people they have become, the partners they found, and the wonderful spirits of each of her grandchildren. Her first born, Marshall Dustin “Dusty” Rood, with Dusty’s wife, Kris, and their three children, Hailey, Charlie and Josie, and her daughter, Dallas Rebecca Rausch (Rood), with Dallas’ husband, Mike, and their two children, Logan and Dan, all were the light of Jody’s life. Nothing in this world gave her greater happiness. Her shared life and many adventures with her two sisters, Marilyn Krantz and Leasa Mercer, and Leasa’s husband, Barry, brought her happiness and comfort. She had a very special place in her heart for her nieces, Sarah Evans-Tomlin and Katie Renner, and her greatnephew, Henry Reardon. She also leaves her extended family, step-daughter, Brittney, stepson, Larry, with Larry’s daughter, Taylor, and step-daughter, Desaraee, with Desaraee’s children Icess, Angel, and Sterlin, with Sterlin’s wife, Kaylan, and their son, Wyatt. To Jody, family was everything.

Friends and family are invited to a special visitation at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Thursday, October 17, 2019, from 10:00 AM until the start of the memorial service at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, Jody’s wishes are for her friends and family to contribute to their local food bank regularly and to donate and support Hospice of Frederick, 516 Trail Ave. P.O. Box 1799 Frederick, MD 21702 or ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A very special “Thank You” is extended to Dr. Bazzi and his fabulous team for all their care and love.

She will be missed, cherished, remembered and celebrated always by the “Girlie Whirlies,” and the many friends she gathered along the way.

Soar above us, dear Jody. Fly free of burdens, watch down on your family, and know always how much you were loved.
