Janet Marie Anderson Parr passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on October 16, 2021, the day before her 90th birthday. Daughter of Anna and Eric Anderson, Jan was born in Rockford, IL on October 17, 1931. As a teenager in 1948 Jan was a volunteer at Rockford’s Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. She graduated from Rockford East High School in 1949 where she enjoyed singing in the a cappella choir. She married Frank Allen “Al” Nightingale Jr. in 1950, with whom she had 4 children: Darcy, Lynn, Frank (Chip), and LeAnn. Before retiring Jan was an insurance agent for many years owning Nightingale and Associates, and she waitressed at Gerry’s Pizza. In 2004 at the age of 72, she married Leslie “Jim” Parr. They enjoyed traveling across the United States together visiting places she had never been.
Jan was thoughtful and loving. Her home was always open to friends, family, and neighbors. She was the ultimate hostess and was known for her well-loved Christmas open houses. Her family was everything to her. In her final months she moved to Frederick, Maryland to be near her children and grandchildren.
Jan was predeceased by her loving husband of 4 years, Leslie “Jim” Parr; her first husband, Frank Allen “Al” Nightingale Jr.; her son, Frank Allen “Chip” Nightingale III; and her son-in-law, Steven Mason Ekstrom. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Darcell Elaine Ekstrom, Lynn Marie Lorello (Tim), and LeAnn Mabel Nightingale Larson (John); her stepchildren: Jim (Linda) Parr, and Renee Parr; her grandchildren: Alexander James Lorello (Faith), Jonathan Ashley Rose, Ian Timothy Lorello (Laura), Aubrey Anna Flowers (James), Joshua Adam Erbacher Larson (Katelyn), Grant William Lorello, Meara Hlynn Nightingale Alvarado (Pedro), Isabella Grace Nightingale Larson, and Charlotte & Miranda Lawley; and her great-grandson, Isaac Allen Flowers. She will also be missed by many friends, especially Kim Hegner (Jim) and Mike Williamson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00AM, on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Joseph's on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Frederick, MD 21703. Father John Williamson officiated. Interment followed at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
