Mrs. Jane Metzger Dertzbaugh, 98, of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024. She was the loving wife of Frank M. Dertzbaugh, Jr. , who preceded her in death on April 23, 1997.
Jane was born February 9, 1926 in Myersville. She was the daughter of the late Howard and Clara Metzger.
Jane was raised in Myersville and graduated from Middletown High School in 1943 and joined the Cadet Nurse Corps that same year. She subsequently graduated from Frederick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. Jane and Frank were married on October 15, 1948. Together, Jane and Frank settled down in Mt. Airy and enjoyed a life of travel, camping, boating, and fishing. She was very active in the community and was instrumental in starting the Red Cross Blood Drive that is still active in the community. She was active in the American Legion, VFW, and Cub Scouts.
Jane relished her role as a Mother to four (4) rambunctious children and “Granny” to nine (9) Grandchildren and “Gigi” to her nine (9) Great Grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Frank (Denise) Dertzbaugh, John (Jan) Dertzbaugh, Mark (Heather) Dertzbaugh, James (Sandy) Dertzbaugh; grandchildren Karen (Brad) Kalin, Tammy (Corey) Immer, Tim (Meg) Dertzbaugh, Casey (Steven) Jansen, Kelsey (Dan) Maslen, Jay Dertzbaugh, Adam Dertzbaugh, Alex Dertzbaugh and Bryan Morgan; and nine (9) great grand children who she adored; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many life long friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Nancy Chu, Eunice Fouche, and Cynthia Zecher.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at Homewood for the care of Jane over her 17 years in residence and then attendance by Frederick Health Hospice for the care of Jane in the final stages of her journey.

A celebration of life will be held on January 11, 2025 at 11:00 am at Homewood Crumland Farms Chapel, 7407 Willow Rd, Frederick, MD 21701 with a reception to follow.
