John David "Jack" Brunk passed away peacefully at home, with Jeannie his devoted wife of 57 years by his side.
In addition to his wife Jeannie, he is survived by two children Linda Brunk and Scott Brunk and his wife Rachel, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren who lovingly knew him as "poppies", sister Catharine "Kay" Eash, as well as numerous nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Deborah Ann Brunk .
Born November 3, 1937 he was the only son of the late J Milton Brunk and Elsie Yoder Brunk.
Jack graduated from Frederick High school in 1955. He attended Goshen College in Indiana and Western Maryland College where he majored in mathematics. After college Jack served in the United States Army's Security Agency division from 1959-1962. Upon returning home Jack went to work for the family business Frederick Produce Company, now Food Pro where he was promoted to president in 1972. Jack remained with the company for over sixty years and served as the companies CEO until his death .
Jack had a servants heart and was very active in the Frederick community. Jack became a member of the Legion of Honor in 2002 after serving as a Kiwanian for thirty five years. In addition Jack served on the Board of Directors for Mid Maryland Restaurant association, Dan Dee Restaurant, Farmers and Mechanics Nation Bank, and Frederick Mutual Insurance Company. Jack was also active with many non profit organizations serving on their boards including Boy Scouts of America, Maryland Crippled Children where he served as Easter Seal Chairman, Frederick Rescue Mission, Salvation Army of Frederick, Maryland Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Maryland Lupus Foundation. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick.
Jack was a humble man who was loved by his family and all who knew him for his kindness, strength of character, and giving spirit. Jack loved playing golf, and traveling to the places "less traveled by". Jack also loved football and especially the Washington Redskins. Jack was a proud charter member of the Redskin Express and enjoyed spending time with his Redskin family. Anyone that knew him knew he was quite the competitor when it came to games and he spent many hours playing with family and friends. Jack loved to make peoples day and was known throughout Frederick as the man who left the two dollar bills on top of his already generous tip. Jack's greatest love was his family.
A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church 7040 Bowers Rd, Frederick MD. Pastor and nephew Paul Simonson will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery . The family would like to invite those who would like to join them for good food and fellowship at FoodPro, 321 East 5th Street, Frederick, MD following internment.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's honor may be made to the Frederick Rescue Mission, "where lives are changed for now and eternity ".
