Idel (Del) Breland of Frederick, MD passed away April 12 2023. He was born January 24, 1937 in Wiggins, MS to the union of Bruno and Minnie Breland. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Bill, Katie, and Tillis. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Ann Gartner on May 5, 1984. To this union two children were born, Troy Michael (Wichita, KS) and Christopher Juan (Denver, CO) Breland. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends to cherish his memory. Del graduated from West High School Minneapolis, MN. He served in the US Army and Minnesota National Guard. He graduated from Northwestern Institute of Technology in Minneapolis, MN with a degree in Electronics Technology and a degree in Computer Information and Control Science from the University of Minnesota. He then applied his degrees working for Navy Astronautics Group (NAG) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He transitioned to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) where he studied Aviation Technology and Program Management at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Academy. He was a dedicated civil servant for 37 years before his retirement. He loved nature so he designed and created a private forest; planting and maintaining the trees to provide additional wildlife habitat, recreation, fishing, solitude, and a place to enjoy with family and friends. His love for traveling inspired him to take an overseas assignment to Puerto Rico where he was able to travel throughout the Caribbean and South America. He confessed his love for Christ at an early age. He was strong in his faith and offered guidance to many through his works and actions. As a dedicated member of St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, he participated in many church activities and lead the Men’s Club for two years. Del life was rich and full! He believed in volunteerism, was committed to his community, and was actively involved in his neighborhood and local government. Del was a deeply devoted husband, a dear brother, unconditional loving father, loyal friend, and role model to many. Most important, Del was God’s Son. God has called him home but Del still lives on in all the lives that he touched. Now he is living in peace forever with his creator.
