Gordon Tazzwell Jenkins

May 22, 1933 — January 14, 2023

Gordon Tazzwell Jenkins, 89, of Frederick, MD, passed unexpectedly at home early on Saturday January 14, 2023. Born in Woodville, VA to the late Wade Ellis and Virginia C. (Butler) Jenkins. He was the beloved husband to Joy Marie (Steinhaus) Jenkins for 67 years.

Gordon proudly served in the United States Navy for 4 years and served an additional 2 years in the United States Army. During the Korean war he was stationed aboard the battleship USS Wisconsin. Gordon was a master carpenter that worked with numerous local home builders. He would later go on to work at COMSAT, Clarksburg, as a Facilities Maintenance Carpenter until his retirement. He would maintain his own woodworking shop in his home where he enjoyed furniture building for family and friends.

Gordon was a member American Legion, Woodsboro Post 282, and he enjoyed metal detecting, ship reunions and veterans events, golf, and attending carnivals and fairs. He was an avid blue grass music fan traveling throughout the area listening to local groups.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; children Charles A. “Chuck” Jenkins, Gary L. Jenkins and wife Donna, Diane M. Lease and husband Donnie, all of Frederick County, and Lisa Jenkins Gainey of Society Hill, SC, his grandchildren; Charles “CJ” Jenkins, Jr. and Meghan Jenkins, Kara Jenkins, Nicole Randolph and Joseph Lease, Jessica Longenecker and Kamryn Gainey, and Ashley Jenkins, his great-grandchildren; Audrey, Alaina, Logan, and Bailey, his sister Mary Hitt of Virginia, and daughters-in-law Shari Hendrickson Jenkins and Samantha Rohrer Jenkins. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by; his son Kevin Wayne Jenkins, son-in-law Raymond Gainey, Jr., granddaughter Emily Jenkins, and 3 siblings.

Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Friday January 20, 2023 from 4pm until the start of the funeral service at 7pm. Interment will be held privately by the family.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made in Gordon's name Platoon Veteran Services Center, 1750 Monocacy Blvd, Suite A, Frederick, MD 21701 or to the attention of Dwight Reynolds, American Legion Post 282, 101 W Elizabeth St. Woodsboro, MD 21798.
