Mr. Gillis M. Bolden, of Frederick, died suddenly on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the former husband of Lydia Lopez-Bolden.
Born January 6, 1965, in Detroit, he was the son of Gillis M. Bolden, Sr. and Louella Lofton Bolden, of Frederick. Gillis was a graduate of Finney High School, Detroit and entered the United States Army, where he served for over 20 years. He had tours in Central Europe, Turkey and Afghanistan.
Following his military service, he worked for the Department of the Army as a human resource specialist and then transitioned into law enforcement. Some years later he returned to the Department of Army and resumed his work in Human Resources.
He loved sports and actively supported his children in baseball and basketball. He enjoyed bicycling and worked out frequently at One Life Fitness Gym. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan.
Besides his former wife and parents, Gillis is survived by three sons, Gillis M. “Tre” Bolden, III, of Philadelphia, Justin M. Bolden, Frederick, and Kerry P. Stinson, of Fort Lewis, WA; one daughter, Tiniesha Lashay Bolden; three grandchildren and an uncle, Willie Lofton.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Franchesca X. Stinson, who died in 2009.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm on Thursday, November 21 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, November 22 from the First Missionary Baptist Church, 6430 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, 21703. The Rev. Jonathan Williams, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
