Gerry Souders

Geraldine (Gerry) Joy Souders (81) of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 18th, 2022, at her home, after a heroic battle with metastatic breast cancer. Gerry was born in Dunkirk, NY on August 8, 1940, to the late Carl and Madalyn Joy.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Souders of 39 years, as well as her sister, Louise (Joy) Stevens. She was survived by her three children David Souders and wife Christine (Free) Souders, Valerie Hatmaker and Todd Souders. She was loved dearly by her seven grandchildren, Madison Souders, Jessica Hatmaker, Julia Hatmaker, Kayla Hatmaker, Kyle Hatmaker, Bailey Souders and Samantha Souders, and cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Gerry will also be remembered by Nelson (Donnie) Reifsnider who brightened her life and brought her much love, joy, and laughter over the past five years.

Gerry retired from Avemco Insurance in 1999 and volunteered at Catholic Daughters of America Court 278, Frederick Health Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, the Weinberg Center and served as Eucharistic Minister at Saint John’s The Evangelist church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Frederick Health Hospice, 1 Frederick Health Way Frederick, MD 21702, Saint John’s The Evangelistic Church, or a charity of your choice.

Family and friends will gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 4pm to 7pm. A mass will take place at Saint John’s The Evangelistic Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street on Thursday June 23, 2022, at 11am. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
