Frederick Mathias Michel, 63, died on Monday, October 17, 2022 at his family home of five generations in Frederick, MD. He was the beloved son of Theresa Mathias Michel and the late Glenn Carlyle Michel, Esq. (USN-Ret.).
Fred was born on April 30, 1959 at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He grew up in Frederick and attended Parkway and West Frederick Junior High Schools. He graduated from Avon Old Farms School in Avon, CT, attended The Citadel in Charleston SC, and graduated from American University, Washington, DC, and Hood College from which he received his MBA. As a political science major, he enjoyed campaigning for his favored candidates, serving in the George H.W. Bush Administration, and analyzing the political process. He also worked in gourmet food services, in financial services, and as a real estate property manager.
Always enthusiastic about his affiliations, he was a member and secretary of the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, a 4 th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, a member of Heritage Frederick, and a devoted alumnus of his alma maters. Fred’s big heart, generous spirit, and empathy for others were among his most admired qualities.
Fred is survived by his mother, Theresa Mathias Michel, his sister, Theresa Trail Michel, his former wife, Kathryn Strodel Michel, his many cousins, and his friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 1:00 pm at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church St., Frederick. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of Frederick County in support of the Michael Grosh S.A.R. Fund at www.frederickcountygives.org.
