Florence Josephine Schaefer

SCHAEFER , Florence Josephine (née Jager) Born on December 20, 1936 and passed on Saturday, February 9, 2019, Florence was the daughter of the late Ida Ingino and Antoon Jager; beloved wife of the late Paul M. Schaefer; mother of Patricia Schaefer and Maria C. Schaefer Nauman and husband Christopher A.S. Nauman; grandmother of Nick, Grace, John Paul, Anna, Ben, and Luke Nauman; sister of Peter and wife Gilda Jager of Franklin Lakes, NJ, and Rosemarie Rosecrans Britton of Ocala, FL; half-sister of the late Johanna and husband Tony Montefusco of Fairlawn, NJ; sister-in-law of Carl L. Schaefer of Beacon, NY and Rose Mary (née Schaefer) and husband David Young of Clifton, NJ; and also is survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Florence was born the eldest of three children in Paterson, NJ and grew up in Hawthorne, NJ, graduating in 1954 from Hawthorne High School. She married Paul Martin Schaefer of Nutley, NJ at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Hawthorne, NJ in 1958. Together, they raised two daughters, Pattie and Maria, in Catonsville, MD and ran a successful insurance agency there, Schaefer & Associates Insurance Services, Inc., for which Florence worked as the bookkeeper. Florence enjoyed antiquing, decorating, fine collectibles, and traveling internationally with Paul. Among her favorite places were England and colonial Williamsburg, VA. She also enjoyed hosting with Paul a great annual Preakness celebration for their extended family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East 2nd Street, Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends an hour prior to Mass, with interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
