Evelyn (Evie) M. Manwiller, 91, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Homewood at Frederick, surrounded by loved ones. Born on December 18, 1931, in Frederick, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Dare Morton and Roberta Dixon Morton (Levy). Evie was the beloved wife of the late Karl S. Manwiller, Jr, to whom she was married for 55 years.
Evie became a registered nurse after attending the University of Maryland. During the summer of 1954, she was a camp nurse at Camp Shohola in the Poconos, where she met Karl, a camp counselor. Evie loved to play tennis, swim, ride horses, and spend her time outdoors. She loved the feeling of the sun on her face. You couldn’t go into Evie’s house without hearing classical music. She cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She was a member of the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ. Evie enjoyed being an active member of the Eastview and Homewood communities. She was a volunteer at the Record Street Home in Frederick and was on the Frederick Memorial Hospital Board.
Family and friends fondly remember Evie for her kindness, quick wit, and dry sense of humor. As Evie always said, “Be good, but not too good,” or “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” followed by a wink. She is survived by: her children, Kurt Manwiller, Kathryn Manwiller, and Kristen Niehoff and husband, Fred; grandchildren, Jonathan Manwiller Keller (Kristina Tringali), Stacey White (Kyle White), and Abbie Niehoff (Aaron Frishman); and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her brother, William D. Morton, Jr., and her sister, Roberta Elizabeth (Betty) Evans. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
