Evangelia Marketon, known to all as Eva fell asleep in the Lord, peacefully on the morning of Friday,18 Oct 2024, after a 2-1/2 year battle with gastric cancer.
Eva was born on 28 March 1941 in a village just outside Heraklion, Crete, Greece, and was the third of four children. An American service member, Ervin “Mark”, swept her off her feet, charmed her conservative family before getting married, and traveling the world. Arriving in the DC Metro area in 1994, Eva became an active member of St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church in Lanham. Eva became a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church after moving to Frederick in 2017.
Eva is survived by her two sons John (Jeanette) and Anthony “Tony” (Rebekah “Becky”), and grandchildren Hannah and Iain. Eva follows both her parents, three brothers, husband Ervin, and grandson Mark to the Lord.
The family will receive friends at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, 25 October 2024 from 10 am to 11 am. The funeral service will begin at 11 am. Father John Bullock will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Although Eva loved gardening and flowers, she requested that in lieu of wreaths and flowers, contributions be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church.
