Ernestine Forester Howes

Ernestine “Teenie” Forester Howes, 96, of Frederick, MD, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at Frederick Health Hospital, short of her goal to live to be 100. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Hawkins Howes, who passed away in Oct., 2000.  They were endlessly and lovingly devoted to each other. Born March 9, 1927 in Mars Hill, North Carolina, she was one of 10 children of the late Angie and Claude Forester.

Ernestine worked for the U.S. Navy Department for many years, while, upon them both retiring, she and Milton operated a popular mobile produce business stationed at various places in Washington, D.C.  They both enjoyed their many annual winter trips to Haines City, Florida, where they had many friends, family and interests. She was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, in Gaithersburg, and an associate member of Frederick Church of the Brethren.  She was also a member of the Francis Scott Key Lions Club of Frederick, which provided several services for her in her last years. Ernestine is survived by many nieces and nephews living around the United States.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 24, 2023 at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, 24115 Laytonsville Rd, Gaithersburg.  Friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ernestine’s name to a charity of your choice or to one of the churches she was affiliated with or to the Lions Club of Frederick.
