Elisabeth Teuteberg

Elisabeth Teuteberg, 95, of Frederick, passed on Monday, October 2, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born in Flieden, Germany on January 1, 1928 to the late Josef and Maria (Kaib) Hofmann. She was the beloved wife of the late Earl Robert Teuteberg.

Elisabeth grew up on a farm in Germany. She would later travel to and live in Canada for several years. She loved living in Canada but ultimately moved to Washington, D.C. Having arrived by boat on the Queen Elizabeth. She worked as a waitress at the Shoreham Hotel in D.C. and loved meeting new people. She would eventually meet her husband and they were married in 1959. They would stay married until his passing in 1997.

Elisabeth loved gardening and being outside. She would watch the birds in her garden. She was also known as a great navigator. Always handling the map when on trips with her husband. She was also an avid fan of Germany’s soccer team.

She is survived by, her daughters, Gabriele Reins and Veronika Teuteberg, her grandchildren; Connie Reins-Miranda (John), Walter Reins, and Peter Reins (Natalya), her great-grandchildren; Jadyn Reins and Josiah Reins, and her sister Frieda Muller. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings Rudy Hofmann, Anni Metz, Paula Wess, Alfred Hofmann, Gustel Schlimme, Erna Bassett, and Hilde Hofmann, and her son in law Dieter Reins. A special thanks goes to Terry Ifert for the love and care she provided.

Family and friends can gather at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, on Sunday October 8, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 East 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Monday October 9, 2023 at 11:30am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to the VFW Post 3285, 5901 Old National Pike, Frederick, MD 21702,  the Navy Memorial Museum, 701 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC  20004, or the Frederick County Humane Society, P.O Box 3185 , Frederick, MD  21705.
