Dorothy Ferruzza

March 9, 1930 — February 27, 2025

Mrs. Dorothy Finley Ferruzza, 94, of Frederick, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Kline Hospice House. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, Angelo Ferruzza, who passed in 2013, and her dear daughter, Kathy Ellis.

Born on March 9, 1930, in Washington, D.C., Dorothy was the daughter of the late Elmer and Hulda Finley. She was the last of her generation, but her love and legacy live on through the family she cherished so deeply.

Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving daughters, Diane Nolan (Mark) and Eileen Komara (Greg), and her devoted son-in-law, Michael Ellis. She was the proud grandmother of Brittany Coffman (Bob), Brooke Harwood (George), AJ Nottingham, Bryan Nolan (Lisa), Kayleigh Thomas (Kyle), Allison Komara, Nick Nolan, and Tony Komara. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren—Kyle, Brielle, Finley, Emory, Delaney, Sawyer, Mackenzie, Charlotte, Madison, and Will—who adored their “Nan-nan.” She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.

She spent 40 plus years working as an RN. Her career included working Emergency Room, Pediatrics, as Employee Health at the Library of Congress and her favorite; Labor and Delivery. Family and friends often have memories of her being present for their birth, surgeries and first aid needs. She took care of us all.

Dorothy had a warmth that made everyone feel at home. Her kitchen was the heart of so many cherished memories, where she lovingly made her famous spaghetti with her secret-recipe sauce—a taste of pure comfort and love. If she told you, “I love your bones for chickie meat,” you knew you were one of her favorites. She had a way of making every person feel special, and her humor and kindness left an imprint on all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Dorothy’s honor to Brookhill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Road, Frederick, MD 21702, or Kline Hospice House, 7000 Kimmel Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Dorothy’s love, wisdom, and warmth will be missed beyond words, but her spirit will live on in every shared meal, every family gathering, and every loving “I love your bones for chickie meat.”
