Diane Dietrich Sausser, age 80, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 22, 2020 in Frederick, MD. She was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Robert Sausser. She was born in Washington, DC on November 24, 1939 to the late Cyril and Margaret Dietrich.
She is survived by her daughters Megan Souder and husband Howard, Robin Carter and husband Gary, grandchildren Lauren, Erin, William, Matthew and Evan, and sister, Margaret Dietrich.
Diane obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland College Park in 1961 and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She worked as a teacher in Prince Georges County and later as paraeducator in Speech/Language classes in Montgomery County Public Schools for over 20 years. Diane enjoyed helping others and generously volunteered her time to many charitable organizations including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Shepherd’s Table, Saints Peter and Paul Women’s Guild and Easton Memorial Hospital.
Always energetic, on-the-go and ready for an adventure, Diane traveled extensively, taking scores of overseas trips to dozens of countries over many years. Diane and Bob had many close friends who often accompanied them on their travel adventures. Gregarious and kind, Diane maintained many close friendships over the decades, including a number of friendships that she cherished for over sixty years. In addition to travel, she enjoyed decorating and spending time with her grandchildren.
Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Cordova, Maryland. All services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Diane’s name to Shepherd’s Table, 8106 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910 or by visiting Shepherdstable.org.
