Clarence Leroy Rinehart

Clarence Leroy “Smokey” Rinehart, 85, of Frederick, Maryland peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He was the loving husband of Virginia Lee (Best) Rinehart. They were married for 57 years. He was born on June 15, 1937 in Frederick, MD and was the son of the late Wilbert H. and Mamie M. (Kemp) Rinehart. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1955. Following high school, he worked at Price Electric before joining the Frederick News Post. During his time at the Frederick News Post, he was called to serve his country and was a Specialist IV in the United States Army from 1960-1962 where he was stationed at Fort George G. Meade, MD, Fort Benning, GA, Fort Huachuca, AZ, Kaiserslautern, Germany, Camp Pickett, VA, and Fort Hamilton, NY. He was a member of the 3rd Armored Calvary “Brave Rifles.” After his service, he returned to the Frederick News Post part-time where he worked for over 50 years in ad composition. A full-time career firefighter, he proudly served Frederick City and Frederick County as a Driver for Citizens Truck Company, No. 4. He retired as a Sergeant with nearly 30 years of service. He was a Life Member and Past Chief at the Independent Hose Company, No. 1 and a Life Member and Past Secretary at Citizens Truck Company, No. 4. He was a member of the American Legion Francis Scott Key Post No. 11 and Amvets Post No. 2. He attended All Saints’ Episcopal Church serving as an acolyte, Sunday School teacher, and usher. He was an avid Yankee fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Peg (Rinehart) McGreevy, her husband, Ian, and grandson, Ryan, whom he adored. He is also survived by his sisters Brenda Little of Chambersburg, PA and Joyce Schley of Frederick, his brothers Charles Rinehart of Waynesboro, PA, Gary Rinehart of Frederick, and Chris Rinehart, and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth, Bernard, James, Robert, and Wilbert, sisters Patricia Israel and Dorothy Delauter, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:30am on Tuesday, May 30th at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street, Frederick, Maryland. The service will begin at 11:30am. Pallbearers include Ian McGreevy, Ryan McGreevy, Jeff Rinehart, Tommy Rinehart, Blaine Rinehart, Grant Schley, Rich Best, and Ricky Lawson. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Saints’ Episcopal Church or The American Heart Association.
