Carroll Eugene Selby

Mr. Carroll "Gene" Selby, 94, of Frederick, died on October 22, 2023 at Homewood at Crumland Farms.  He was the husband of the late Gloria (McDonough) Selby, who preceded him in death in 2016.

Born January 26, 1929 in New Market, he was the son of the late Bernard and Katherine Selby.

Gene graduated from the Frederick High School and then from the University of Maryland College Park with a Bachelor's Degree.  He served in the US Army for 2 years.  He worked at Fort Detrick in the biological warfare division.  He then transferred to the NCI-FCRF until he fully retired in 2007.  Gene was a member of the Philanthropic Lodge #168 in New Market, since 1950 where he was Past Master in 1958.  He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.  He was an avid Terrapin, Orioles, Redskins and other local sports fan.  He loved to spend time with his family at their beach house in Fenwick Island, DE.

Mr. Selby is survived by his sons; Doug Selby and wife Kimberly and Greg Selby and wife Liz, grandchildren; William Selby and wife Alexandra, Taylor Weisgerber and husband John, Jessica Selby and wife Tori and Margaret Selby, brother; Howard Selby and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife; Gene was preceded in death by his grandson; Spenser Selby and sister-in-law; Hypatia Selby.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick.  A Masonic Service will be held at 7:15PM.  The funeral and graveside service will be private.
