Caroline Roderick Feaga

May 20, 1927 — January 21, 2025

Caroline R. Feaga, 97, passed away peacefully January 21, 2025 at Homewood in Frederick. She was born May 20, 1927 in Frederick to Airy Viola and Andrew Roderick. Her early years were spent on the family farm near Urbana with her siblings and twin brother. They worked hard but also played hard! She often said she learned the value of hard work on the farm.

Caroline enjoyed a life full of boundless energy and fierce determination. She was known as the “energizer bunny”. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t try to do. She sang like an angel with a beautiful soprano voice, she bicycled through Europe, she participated in multiple Senior Olympic events in swimming and skiing. She was the best (and most active) Girl Scout leader in Frederick (introducing her scouts to primitive camping--much to her daughter’s chagrin), deck power washer extraordinaire, golfer (always walked—NEVER used a cart) and did a 5K run at age 90. She was also very active in Evangelical Lutheran Church--the church she loved. She loved her family.

She was a proud member of the Frederick High School class of 1944 serving in many leadership roles. She progressed after graduation into government service at Ft Detrick and Ft Ritchie with multiple awards for her service. Her retirement years were filled with numerous part time jobs and volunteer hours. Her favorite job was as club demonstrator at Costco which she did until age 90. She loved talking and interacting with people. Our Christmas presents were often products which she had recently demonstrated at Costco which she decided we had to have. She would purchase the product and then present and demonstrate it to us very professionally. Our gifts often ranged from “joint juice”, vitamins and glass cleaners. Thank you Mom for my food saver—I use it all of the time.

Surviving family members are Sharon and Jim Lillard, Pete Markey, grandchildren--Jack Lillard (Chrissi), Becky Pomato (Nick), Kendall White (Jeremiah), Neil Markey, Luke Markey (Barbie). Great grandchildren include Morgan, Sadie and Mason Lillard, Mya and Riddick Pomato, Celia, Elliott, Bennett and Davis White and Grove and Capri Markey. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbarateen Roderick and numerous nieces and nephews.

Caroline was predeceased by her daughter Carol Markey, her great granddaughters Sophie and Madigan Lillard as well as her siblings Elizabeth Fox, Helen Nicodemus, Andrew Roderick and Carroll Roderick.  She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Monroe and Catherine S. Feaga and her former husband Garland P. Feaga.

The family would like to thank Homewood, Willows Unit, for the wonderful care they provided to Caroline during her final years.

Private graveside services for immediate family will be held at Mt Olivet Cemetery at the family’s convenience.

To remember Caroline, take a brisk walk outside and sing as loud as you can. If you’re playing golf, remember to walk the course with your golf clubs and don’t use a golf cart!
