Betty H. Ackley

Betty H. Ackley, age 84, passed away on June 4, 2024. She was born in Potsdam, New York on February 7, 1940, and was the daughter of the late John Hoyt and Mildred Weston.

Betty was a homemaker most of her life, however she did work briefly as a Manager at Carvel’s Ice Cream and volunteered at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Maryland.

After retiring to Conway, South Carolina, Betty and her late husband Edward A. “Ted” Ackley enjoyed golfing, bowling, frequenting the movies during their early years in Conway.  Betty’s passion was music which influenced her singing with the local church choir at Trinity United Methodist Church. Betty enjoyed crocheting tablecloths, runners and doilies in her younger years.

Betty and Ted spent 33 years in Conway until Ted passed in January 2024 at the age of 96. Betty relocated to Tranquility at Fredericktowne (Frederick, Md) to receive the necessary care for dementia following Ted’s death.

Betty is survived by  two sons, David (Michelle) Harriman of Luray, VA, Douglas (Nancy) Ackley (step-son) of Massena, NY, five daughters Diane (Willie) Henderson of Woodbine, MD, Valerie (Dennis) Boccabella of Mt. Airy, MD, Melody (Bill) Payne of Hagerstown, MD, Nansi (Pat) DeRosie (step-daughter) of Ontario, NY, Suzanne Locascio (step-daughter) of Massena, NY. Preceding Betty’s death was her newborn son, Michael Harriman in 1958.  Betty had 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

The family will hold a private burial of Betty’s ashes at Riverside Cemetery in Norwood, NY.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org.
