Beryl Elizabeth Jackson

June 24, 1923 — September 25, 2022

Beryl Elizabeth Gordon Jackson was 99 years young and born on June 24, 1923, in Jefferson, Maryland. She was the second daughter born to the late Osceola Gordon and Beryl Elizabeth Rice Gordon. Beryl was the wife of the late Richard Carlton Jackson. She was known as “Tots” to her family and many friends. Beryl was the last of her immediate family. She was predeceased by two sisters, Nina Evelyn Boyer and Phyllis Lydia Culler, and one brother, Lee Osceola Gordon. She is survived by her loving daughters, Vicki Elizabeth Yanez and husband Carlos, and Lou Ann Cannon and husband Chris; her loving granddaughters, Kristina Elizabeth Yanez, and Jackie Lynn Hoffman and husband Tyler; her loving great-grandson, Damon Ryan Haak, and her loving great-granddaughter, Cameron Grace Hoffman. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. She was particularly close to two nieces, Sharon Peterson and family and Barbara Blickenstaff.

She was a longtime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, Maryland, since April 6, 1952, transferring from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jefferson, Maryland. She was a 1940 graduate of Frederick High School. During World War II, she was a loving and supportive Navy wife. In her early years, she worked for Sears, Roebuck, & Co. She was a wonderful homemaker while her husband was living. She later took courses in bookkeeping and accounting. She then had a longtime position as a bookkeeper for Drs. Remsberg, Evich, and Nathan. After retiring at age 77, she loved watching professional tennis, especially the Grand Slams and her favorite player Rafael Nadal. She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 409 and of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).

She was an avid bowler of duck pins for many years. She loved to travel and visited England, France, Greece, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, the Bahamas, Alaska, and Hawaii. She took several cruises visiting Cancun and Cozumel, Mexico; Martinique; Antigua; Saint Martin; Tortola and Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands; and San Juan, Puerto Rico. She also enjoyed her cross-country trip to California taking the southern route out and the northern route back.


The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sunrise Senior Living of Frederick for their care since January 2019. The family will receive friends from 1pm to 4pm, on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The funeral service will be at 11:00AM, on Monday, October 3, 2022 in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
