Barbara Ellen Burke

On October 17, 2023, age 103, Barbara Ellen Burke went to be with her Lord and Savior. Barbara was born in Frederick, MD on October 19, 1919 and was the daughter of George Jacob Haller and Templin Amelia Hoffman Haller.

She was a graduate of Frederick High School and later served in the U.S. Navy, as a secretary during WW II. After her military service, Barbara worked as a secretary at Hood College. She married her late husband Norman Burke in 1948. She also worked for the American Red Cross from 1961 - 1990.

Barbara was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick, MD and was an active member of the Wesleyan Guild for many years.

Barbara is survived by her daughters Patricia Dillon, Holly Burke and Cindy Burke, granddaughters Laura Stouter, Trisha Wallace, Caitlyn Swartz and Hannah Yesk, great grandchildren Caroline Wallace and Weston Wallace and numerous cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her sisters Hilda Haller and Dorothy Haller and brother Grayson Haller.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market Street. Online condolences may be left at www.keeneybasford.com
