Anthony John Sos

Anthony “Tony” John Sos 76, of Frederick, MD passed away unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Born March 3, 1947 in Northampton, PA, Tony was the son of the late Emil F. Sos and Anna Sos (Grabarits.) Tony graduated from Central Catholic High School in Allentown, PA. He was drafted to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He met his loving wife of 54 years, Sandra “Sandy” Jane Perkins while stationed at Ft. Detrick upon his return from service. Tony later received his Bachelor of Science degree from Mt. St. Mary’s College in 1977. Throughout his lifetime, Tony owned several local businesses, including The Underground Bar and Grille in Frederick, MD, and Whistlestop Gas Station in Thurmont, MD. He retired from State Auto Mutual Insurance Company in 2003 where he was a Senior Safety Engineer. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 11 and the Elks Lodge. A true master of routine and simplicity, Tony was happiest when he was at home surrounded by his family. He loved his English toasting bread, chocolate chip cookies, and walking the neighborhood with his dog. Tony’s quiet kindness made everyone who knew him feel safe and comfortable. Affectionately known as “Pop” to his loving grandkids, Tony is survived by his wife Sandra Sos; daughters, Angelina Fogle (James), and Amy Boyer; grandchildren, Tyler Hill, Jacob Fogle, Jessica Fogle, and Emma Fogle; sisters, Margaret Geosits, and Marcella Sos (Michelle Ochs); nieces, Tammy Sos-Bentz (Alex), and Stephanie Geosits; nephew, William Sos Jr; brother-in-law Harold Perkins Jr.; best friend Dennis McCauley (Susan); and his four-legged best friend Dug. Tony is predeceased by his brothers, Emil F Sos Jr, and William Sos Sr. The family will receive friends at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A., 106 E. Church St, Frederick, MD, on Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 22nd 2023, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
