Anthony John "Tony" Malavenda, 86, of Frederick, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Irene Joyce La Page Malavenda. Born in Port Chester, New York on March 15, 1933, he was a son of the late Philipe and Marie Branca Malavenda.
Tony proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and spent a total of 26 years in the military. After the military he worked for over 20 years at the Millstone Nuclear Power Station in Waterford, CT. He was a member of the St. Joseph's on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, Columbia Lodge # 58, Frederick, Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11, Korean War Veterans Chapter 142, Frederick, and Amvets Post 2, Frederick.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his grandchildren, Heather Reader and Mike Hansell, of Middletown, Amy O'Guin, of MI and Erika Latti, of PA, his great grandchildren, Zack, Ruben, Elizabeth, Jordan, David and Levi, and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Griffin, grandson-in-law, Kyle O'Guin and a brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Frederick, MD 21703. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Interment with military honors will be at 12 Noon on Friday, May 17, 2019, in the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, MD. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
