Albert "Dick" Danner Iii

Albert “Dick” Henry Danner III, 88, passed away June 20, 2024, at Somerford Place, Frederick, MD.  He was born on Sept. 19, 1935, in Brunswick to Albert Henry Danner II and Margaret (Tobery) Danner.

He moved to Frederick in the 10th grade.  He sang in the Glee Club and played Soccer.  Dick graduated in the Class of 54, from Frederick High School.  Soon after graduation he accepted employment at Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he remained for 40 years, rising to the position of Medical Laboratory Manager.  He also joined the 302nd Signal Army Reserve Unit stationed at Ft. Meade, MD in 1954.  He met and married Florence Castle on Dec. 31, 1955, they were to be married 69 years.

During his younger years he was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, flying, photography, reading, and art.  He was also a Baseball coach for the American Little League and Babe Ruth League in Frederick.  In 1971, as the Babe Ruth Assistant Coach, the team won the Maryland State Championship.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, having served as an usher.  He was a member of the Frederick Elks Lodge 684, VFW and American Legion.

Dick is survived by his wife; Florence, Children; Mark, Michael (Denise), Matthew (Suzanne Runge).  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sarah (Wayne) Whitmore, Megan (Jeremy) McEwen, Benjamin (Brianne) Danner, Dean Danner, and Carly Danner.  He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Kyler, Reagan, Tommy and Lizzy.

The family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10:00am on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St, Frederick.  The service will immediately follow at 10:00am.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 East Church St., Frederick, MD, 21701.
