Paul H. Angel, Jr.

Mr. Paul Henry Angel, Jr., 92, of Sunrise Assisted Living, Frederick, formerly of Olney, Maryland, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Gerig Angel, who died in 2004.

Born September 8, 1918, in Rockford, Illinois, he was the son of the late Paul Henry, Sr., and the late Lavonne Baker Angel.

Mr. Angel attended Purdue University and apprenticed as a cabinetmaker in Chicago, Illinois prior to a career in the U.S.Air Force (Army-Air Corps). He flew missions over Europe during World War II as a tail gunner on B-17's and saw combat in North Africa. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Angel had a second career with Montgomery County as a Supervisor of Highway Maintenance. He was active with the American Legion and VFW and twice past Post Commander of the Brookeville American Legion. He was also member of St. Johns Episcopal Church of Olney and St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church of Laytonsville.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care provided by Dr. Ali Afrookteh and Sunrise Assisted Living.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn A. Whitcomb and husband John M. of Holyoke, MA, Rosemary A. Wolfe and husband Charles "Rick" of Frederick; three sons, Paul H. Angel III, and wife Linda of Prince Frederick, Jonathan M. Angel and wife Lindy of Middletown, and George S. Angel and wife Barbara of Laytonsville; and six grandchildren, Benjamin L. Whitcomb and wife Laura Thoms, Samuel P. Whitcomb, Daniel J. Whitcomb and wife, Jen, Paula Ann Angel, Alex G. Angel, and Cory R. Angel; and two great-grandchildren, Levi and Emma Whitcomb.

He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Angel of Florida, and his grandson Derek Matthew Angel of Frederick.

There will be a family service in Fort Wayne, IN, followed by interment at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN.
