Norma Jean Baer

Norma Jean Baer, 82, formerly of Arlington, Va., most recently of Frederick, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 3, 1927, in Uniontown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Glenn and Marjorie Rose (Kelliher) Gillespie. Mrs. Baer graduated from Uniontown High School, Uniontown, Pa., Class of 1946. After years of being a homemaker, she began her government career in 1968 working at the Pentagon for the Department of the Navy as a printing specialist. She retired in 1994. She enjoyed playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles. Above all, she was a wonderful mother. Mrs. Baer was preceded in death by her son, Michael Robert Baer, who passed away in 1993. She is survived by her three other children, James R. Baer and his wife, Gloria, of Purcellville, Va., David T. Baer and his wife, Karen, of Fairfax, Va., and Sandra B. Kinney and her husband, Jeffrey A., of Frederick; and her daughter-in-law, Helen P. Baer of Lexington, Ky. She was the grandmother of 14 and the great-grandmother of two. In addition to her parents and son, she is also preceded in death by her brother, James D. Gillespie. A memorial mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Church St., Frederick. Father Keith W. Boisvert will officiate. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Baer's name by making checks payable to the University of Louisville, and donors need to state the Michael R.
