Elsie Mae Bartgis

Mrs. Elsie Mae Bartgis, 87, of Frederick, died Friday, April 30, 2010, in Dickerson at the home of her niece, Elsie Johnson, with whom she resided for the past seven months. Mrs. Bartgis was the wife of the late James Bartgis, who predeceased her in 1999. Born Nov. 10, 1922, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Emma Gertrude Young Poole. Mrs. Bartgis worked along side her husband for many years in the day-to-day operation of their dairy farm. She enjoyed gardening and loved to can the produce that she grew in her vegetable garden. She is survived by her son, Randy Bartgis of Frederick; two brothers, John Oliver Poole and Walter Abram Poole, both of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Elsie Johnson. Mrs. Bartgis was predeceased by seven brothers, Charles H. Poole, William A. Poole, George E. Poole, Martin L. Poole, Paul L. Poole, Samuel T. Poole and Warner M. Poole; and two sisters, Virginia L. Lenhart Poole and Myrtle M. Poole King. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 3, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services for Mrs. Bartgis will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
