Mrs. Shirley M. Bennett, 76, of Buckinghams Choice, Adamstown and formerly of Mt. Airy, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of George W. Bennett, Sr. Born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Charles and Anna Dyer Meyers. Mrs. Bennett was retired as a senior accountant with the Department of Energy. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and at one time very active in the Mt. Airy Senior Center. After moving to Buckingham's Choice she was very active there in the community. Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, George W. Bennett, Jr., and wife Pamela, of Ellicott City, Lorraine L. Moxley and husband Mark, of Mt. Airy and Ethel A. Williams and husband Frank, of Fairfield, PA, grandchildren, Shea L. Smith and husband Steve, Christine R. Henry and husband Stephen, Geoffrey W. Bennett and fiancee, Lindsey, Kiley N. Williams and Maurice "Mo" Williams, two sisters, Joan M. Meyers and Carol A. Wright, both of Washington, PA, also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Meyers and Roy Meyers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday, August 19, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 20, 2011, from the graveside in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. The Rev. Dennis E. Yocum, will officiate. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 28, 2011, at the community center of Buckingham's Choice, 3200 Baker Circle, Adamstown. The Rev. Elaine Prince and The Rev. Dennis E. Yocum, will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to "Memorial Gifts at Buckingham's Choice" or "Resident Assistance Fund" 3200 Baker Circle, Adamstown, MD 21710.
