Mr. Michael Eugene Boyer, 66, a lifelong resident of Jefferson, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Marcia Jane "Janey" (Chronister) Boyer for 47 years. Born Dec. 12, 1943, at Frederick City Hospital, he was the son of the late Herschel T. Sr. and Mary A. (Thrasher) Boyer of Jefferson. He was a graduate of Frederick High School, class of 1961, and was employed as a draftsman, owning his own successful business, Boyer Drafting Service Inc., for 30 years. Mike was an active member of the Jefferson Ruritan Club; a master gardener; and was previously active in Jefferson Youth Baseball for many years as a coach, as a Scout leader for the Cub Scouts and in the Brunswick High School Athletic Boosters. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of Frederick. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Brian E. Boyer and wife, Jody, of Cincinnati and Mark K. Boyer of Clear Spring; daughters, Laureen M. "Laurie" Boyer of Frederick and Julie M. Humbel and husband, Ron, of Boonsboro; grandchildren, Margaret B. Boyer and Michael J. Boyer, Abigail J. Humbel and Jacob G. Humbel and Clayton O. Boyer; sister, Mary Louise "Toots" Van Sant and husband, Ed, of San Antonio; stepbrothers, Thomas House and wife, Shirley, Robert House and wife, Judy, and Ronald House and wife, Rose; as well as numerous cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered fondly by many friends and business associates. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyer was predeceased by brothers, William A. Boyer, Herschel T. "Bub" Boyer Jr. and Kenneth Lee Boyer; and stepmother, Mary V. House Boyer. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, June 25, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Deacon John Manley will preside. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 26, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 112 E. Second St., Frederick. Deacon John Manley will officiate. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Jefferson. Serving as pallbearers will be Gregory Chronister, Joseph Chronister, Timothy Chronister, David Linebaugh, Sid Culbertson and Gary LaTulippe.
