Ruby E. Brashears

Mrs. Ruby E. Brashears, age 78, longtime resident of Doubs, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville. She was the wife of the late Charles C. Brashears who passed away in 1987. Born on August 6, 1933 in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late George Wm. Sr., and Ethel (Thomas) Hoffman.

Mrs. Brashears worked for 28 years at Carroll Manor Elementary as the cafeteria manager, happily serving children of Adamstown. She also worked during the summer months at Mar Lu Ridge Lutheran Church camp and at the Frederick County 4-H center also serving food to summer campers. She was a life long member of the Doubs United Methodist Church. She volunteered for the Frederick and Feagaville Food & Friends. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bingo.

Mrs. Brashears is survived by her two children, Charles Wm. (Bill) Brashears and wife Frances of Brownsville and Debra Stonesifer and husband Wayne of Knoxville. She was the grandmother of Bryan Stonesifer and wife Paula, Casey Stonesifer, Jai Edwards and wife Bhava, Tommy Edwards and friend Nicole and the great-grandmother of Kristofer and Alexander Stonesifer and Keirra Edwards. She is additionally survived by her siblings, George Wm. Hoffman, Jr. and wife Lucille, Anna Mary Shankle, Helen Plunkard and husband Franklin and two sister-in-laws Betty and Kitty Hoffman, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings Harriet Gibbons, Marion Hoffman, John O. Hoffman, and Jane Phillips. She will be dearly missed by her friends and caring staff at Tranquility, Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Feagaville Food and Friends.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 3 to 5 & from 7 to 9 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where services will be held in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 11 AM. Rev. Paul Papp will officiate. The interment will follow at the Jefferson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jefferson. Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Stonesifer, Casey Stonesifer, Dakota Stonesifer, Charles W. White, Dick Shankle, and Jim Baker. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Brashears name to the Doubs Untied Methodist Church, 5131 Doubs Road, Adamstown, MD 21710.
