Anna Margaret (Diffendal) Chase died on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a short illness, two days before her 88th birthday. Known all her life as "Peggy," she was the devoted wife of Dr. Henry Vincent Chase who was at her side. They had been married for 66 years. A life-long Frederick resident, Peggy was the daughter of Arthur Vinton Myers and Anna Margaret (Diffendal) Myers. She was educated at the Visitation Academy, Saint John's High School and Mount Saint Agnes College in Baltimore. A housewife, Peggy was a charter member of Tasker's Chance Garden Club. She took great pride in her home at 300 West College Terrace where she lived for 56 years until the time of her death. She also was devoted to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and pets. In addition to Dr. Chase, Peggy is survived by: A sister, Pauline Ross Lee of Bethesda. A brother, Arthur Vinton Myers Jr. of Richmond. Son, Henry Vincent Chase, Jr. and wife Sara McHenry-Chase of Wolfesville, Maryland; grandchildren Cali McHenry Chase of Saint Mary's City, Henry Vincent Chase III and Taylor Logan Chase of Wolfesville, Maryland. Granddaughter Ellie Diffendal Chase predeceased Peggy on January 25, 1984. Son, Thomas Vinton Chase and wife Amy Benton-Chase of Frederick; grandchildren Vincent Young Chase and wife Shannon Smith of Frederick, Lauren Kaye Clark and husband Michael Eugene Clark of Frederick and great-grandchildren Gabriel Augustus Chase and Lillian Kaye Clark. Additionally Peggy is survived by step-grandchildren Hana Katherine Lewis of Portland, Oregon, Skyler Benton Lewis and Chloe Irene Lewis of Frederick. Daughter, Anne Handran Hicks and husband Donald Gilbert Hicks of Ellicott City, Maryland; grandchildren Michael Joseph Keeley, Erin O'Neal Keeley and Patrick Chase Keeley of Ellicott City, Maryland. Lastly Peggy is survived by 9 nieces and nephews as well as their 29 children. Persons wishing to send flowers or charitable contributions are asked to submit them in Peggy's name to the Frederick County Humane Society. There will be no viewing.
