"Josephine Marinelli-Chejne was born in Philadelphia on January 3, 1919 to Michael Marinelli and Florence Ricca-Marinelli. The youngest of four daughters (Marie, Yolanda, Eva & Josephine), Josie or Jay (as she was known) was a talented, vivacious, and strong-willed individual who sought out every adventure life had to offer. Coming from a family of well-known artists, Josie found her calling as a professional opera singer, having performed for some of the great musical luminaries of the twentieth century. In the spring of her career, she met and fell in love with the renowned Dr. A.G. Chejne, Professor Emeritus of History. They had two children a son, John, and a daughter, Cecilia Maddlone. Josie accompanied her husband on many of his research trips around the world, and was privy to an eclectic group of educators, historians, and foreign heads of state. After her husband's premature passing in 1983, Josie embarked on a new pursuit as a ballroom dancer, garnering awards for her efforts both in the United States and abroad. In her retirement years, Josie was fond of painting, horses, and spending time with her daughter. Josie is survived by her two children, John of Minneapolis and Cecilia Maddlone of Washington DC, a sister Eva, and her numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Her passion and zest for life will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In celebration of her life, a gathering will be held on Monday, January 3rd at 6:00pm. This day would have been Josie's 92nd birthday and, as such, it will be a memorial to celebrate the life and times of our beloved mother, sister and aunt.
