Mrs. Shirley Ann Creager, 78, lifelong resident of Frederick, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Heartfields Assisted Living. She was the wife of the late Charles Luther Creager, who predeceased her March 12, 2002. Born May 25, 1931, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Grayson F. Shull and Grace V. Shearer Jones. She was also the step-daughter of the late Paul O. Jones. Shirley worked as a supervisor in the transportation department at Fort Detrick. Shirley spent many years teaching Sunday school at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in Frederick. She loved the New England area and going to the beach, especially Ocean City. She was also a great lover of animals, especially cats. Shirley was a kind and caring woman who always lent a helping hand to family, friends and strangers. She is survived by two sons, Dennis A. Creager of Ocean Pines, and David C. Creager and wife, Jill, of Frederick; three grandsons, Chris Creager, Keith Creager and Bryan Creager; one sister, Patricia (Jean) Stevens and husband, James, of Woodsboro; two brothers-in-law, Donald Creager and wife, Nancy, of Thurmont, and Richard Creager and friend, Sue Andrews, of Taneytown; and sister-in-law, Mary Sands of Taneytown. Shirley also will be remembered by daughter-in-law, Beverly (Gail) Smith and husband, Keith, of New Midway; and special friends, Doris Harnish of Hagerstown, Roberta (Bert) Day of Brunswick, and Cathy Bowers of Frederick. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including special nieces Terri, Kim, Cindy and Katrina. A memorial service for Shirley will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, from Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. The Rev. Joseph Ivey, of Barnesville Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be private.
