Ruth Carol Crone

Mrs. Ruth Carol Crone, 88, formerly of Monrovia and of the Record Street Home, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl Livingston Crone, who died in 1962. They were married Sept. 26, 1940. Born Dec. 9, 1921, in Mount Airy, she was a daughter of the late Grover Nelson and Katie F. Droneburg Carpenter. Mrs. Crone was a homemaker for most of her life and she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, stamping and working on jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in McKaig, the New Market Homemakers Club and at one time was a Brownie troop leader in New Market. Surviving her is one son, Earl E. "Gene" Crone and his wife, Cathy, of Monrovia; three daughters, Joan E. Rutherford and her husband, Jerry, of Keystone Heights, Fla., Sharon L. Smith and her husband, Charles, of Monrovia and Ann M. Spangler of Walkersville; one brother, Nelson Carpenter of Littlestown, Pa.; one sister, Earlene Blain of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Frances Carpenter of South Hadley, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles E. Spangler; one brother, Jim Carpenter; and two sisters, Edna Smith and Frances Boyer. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 30, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 1, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Baker, pastor of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
