Thomas Edward Crummitt, Sr.

Thomas Edward Crummitt, Sr., age 77, formerly of Frederick, passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. He was the devoted husband for 61 years of Janet Elizabeth Crummitt. Born on September 24 1933, he was the son of the late Ralph and Bessie Crummitt.

Mr. Crummitt was a hard devoted worker all his life. He started working as a farmer in Middletown and Thurmont. He continued working at Fort Detrick as an operations engineer. He later started his own excavating business, known as T. E. Crummitt Excavating & Septic. In his retirement, Mr. Crummitt moved to Queen Ann's County where he enjoyed crabbing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Crummitt is survived by his son, Thomas Edward Crummitt, Jr., and his wife Geneva of New Market and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Roland Crummitt of Frederick and Melvin Crummitt of Deland, FL. He is preceded in death by brother Preston Crummitt and a sister Ruth Sabo.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM and from 7 to 8 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 8 PM. Rev. David Albertson will officiate. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made in Mr. Crummitt's name to the American Diabetes Association 1701 North Beauregard Street Alexandria, VA 22311.
