Darlene Elizabeth Davis

Miss Darlene Elizabeth Davis, 87, of Frederick, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Homewood at Crumland Farms. Born Oct. 22, 1922, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late George Edward and Grace Elizabeth (Lambert) Davis. She graduated from Frederick High School and soon after went to Washington, where she worked for the C&P Telephone Co. for many years, retiring in 1976, and moving back to Frederick. In early years, she enjoyed swimming, shooting and horseback riding as well as spending her summers at the resort in Weirs, N.H. She always loved birds and supported many animal welfare organizations. She was a longtime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, and a life member of both the Telephone Pioneers of America and Communication Workers of America. She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Davis and Mary Alice Marks, and brother-in-law, William H. Norwood Sr., all of Frederick; nieces and nephews, Sandra Marks Gangawere and husband, Jim, Pamela Wachter and husband, Reed, James Gregory Marks and wife, Sue and Frances Norwood; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Jean Norwood; a brother-in-law, James Daniel "Jim" Marks Jr.; and a nephew, William H. Norwood. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the funeral home. The Rev. David Albertson will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
