Jeanne Elizabeth Duffy

Mrs. Jeanne Elizabeth Higgins Duffy, 87, formerly of New York and more recently of Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick, M.D., died Thursday, June 16, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Dr. Robert W. Duffy, who died in 2003.

Born January 17, 1924 and raised in Rutland, V.T., she was the daughter of the late Robert Matthew and Elizabeth Lassor Higgins.

In 1946, she graduated with a B.S. and an R.N. from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, and by 1949, Jeanne was the surgical charge nurse in Thoracic surgery of Triboro Hospital in NYC.

She was a member of many philanthropic organizations in the Manhasset, N.Y. area.

In 2005, Jeanne moved to the Frederick area and became a resident of Homewood at Crumland Farms, where she had quite an impact on the staff and residents.

She is survived by her four children, Roger W. Duffy and wife, Karen, of Roxbury, N.J.; Tara A. Duffy of New York City, N.Y.; Erin E. Martin and husband, John, of Frederick, M.D.; and Maureen P. Strong and husband, Keith, of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date in New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702.
