Mary Ann (Demko) Ernst, 62, of Frederick, Maryland, died Saturday, April 2, 2011. She was the wife of Franklin Ernst for 39 years.

Born on February 7, 1949, in Mt. Holly, New Jersey to Michael P. and Rosalie E. Nemetz Demko Sr. Mary Ann grew up in Kingston, Pennsylvania.

Mary Ann attended and graduated from Central Catholic High School, Kingston, Pennsylvania, in 1966 and then continued her education at Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, earning a degree in History in 1971. She also attended the University of Hawaii for graduate studies in the early 1970's and in 1992 earned her Masters in Library Science from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.

Mary Ann was an avid educator and worked in North Carolina, Hawaii, and Colorado public school systems as a librarian and teacher for over 20 years. She also worked as a Public Affairs Officer for the Base Support Battalion in Giessen, Germany, and most recently as the Post librarian in Wiesbaden, Germany for the Department of Defense. She was also very active in her faith and was a volunteer choir director and Sunday School teacher for over 25 years and served as the European President for the Military Council of Catholic Women-Europe.

In addition to her husband, Franklin, she is survived by her four children, Michael Ernst, Laura Ernst Wells, Daniel Ernst, and Sara Ernst Wellman; four grandchildren, three siblings: Michael Demko, Rosalie Demko Muroski and Barbara Demko Garcia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick, Maryland. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions or donations may be made in her honor to the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging at cfcausa.org.
