Glenda J. Flickinger

Mrs. Glenda Jane Flickinger, 90, of Walkersville, passed away, Dec. 3, 2011, at the Glade Valley Center in Walkersville.

She was the widow of George D. Flickinger, who preceded her in death July 21, 1992. She had been preceded in death by her first husband, Leo F. Mackenzie, in 1947.

Born in Walkersville, Maryland on March 16, 1921, Glenda was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Minnie Sophie (Rice) Geisinger. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1938. She was a longtime member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren where she was active with the Tuesday Quilters and Home Builders Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Flickinger enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening and had a special love for cats.

As a young girl she worked in the family owned and operated Geisinger's Ice Cream and Meat in Walkersville. She worked in the sewing factory in Walkersville for many years before going to work in the office of Dr. James E. Stoner, Jr. She retired after 40 years of service to Drs. Easterday, Stoner, Dettbarn, and Gough.

She is survived by her son, Charles H. Flickinger and wife Joy F., of Walkersville; two grandchildren, Alan J. and Jonathan S. Flickinger; one great-grandson, Addison J. Maynard; and a number of nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by her loving caregiver Judy Beall.

She was preceded in death by her brothers James O., Charles, Joseph R., and Casper H. Geisinger; half brothers, Frank C. and Lewis Geisinger; and a half sister, Mary Ellen Unger.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mount Olivet Cemetery with Rev. Dr. James S. Flora officiating.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the attentive care by the nursing staff at Glade Valley Center and for the many years of professional care provided by Dr. Richard Gough.
