Mr. Ralph Eugene Fry, 92, of Frederick, died Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center.He was the husband of the late Ruth Virginia Doll, who died on January 30, 2005.
He was born on May 29, 1919, in Adamstown, MD. He was the son of the late Lawrence C. and Mary(Graham) Fry.
Mr. Fry was a graduate of Frederick High School and attended Strayer College.
Prior to his military service in WWII, he was employed at The Everedy Company in Frederick. During the war, he was assigned to the Medical Dept., U.S. Army from December 1942- February 1946. He was stationed at the Medical Replacement Training Center, Camp Berkeley, Texas and then with the176th General Hospital in Normandy from Oct. 1944 through June 1945. Mr. Fry was discharged in February 1946. Following his discharge from the Army, he was employed as an Administrative Officer with the Civil Service at Fort Detrick and retired from there in November 1972.
Mr. Fry was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.
For over 10 years, he was a loyal volunteer with the American Red Cross.In addition, he was a life member of both the Francis Scott Key Post #11 of the American Legion and the V.F.W Post #3285 of Frederick. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #684. Color photography was one of Mr. Fry's long time interest.
He is survived by his siblings Mary Catherine Shannon of Solomons, Lois F. Tyson of Frederick, and brother, Lloyd C. Fry of Bel Air. Also, he is survived by sister-in-law, Teresa Gaver of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, L. Howard Fry.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm, on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel at the funeral home.
Father Richard Murphy will officiate. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S.Market Street, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be shared to a charity of one's choice.
