Joyce E. Green

Mrs. Joyce Elaine "Sugar" Green, 65, of Jefferson, died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2011, with her family by her side at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Green, Sr., who died December 31, 1991. They were married for 29 years. Born on March 7, 1946, in Point of Rocks, she was a daughter of the late Roger Joy, Sr., and Margaret Jane Barrett Tracey. Mrs. Green was employed by North American Housing Corp., for 17 years. She was a founding member of the Jefferson Missionary Baptist Church now known as the Cornerstone Baptist Church on Broadrun Road. She was a member of the choir, women's club and the social committee. She was a former member of the Assembly of God Church, Point of Rocks. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by many friends. Surviving are her children, Malissa O'Hara and husband Larry, and Tracey Green, all of Jefferson, Charles H. Green, Jr., and wife Tracy, of Adamstown, five grandchildren Ashley Richey, Meghan O'Hara, Joey O'Hara, Emily Green and Bailey Green, one brother, Jack Miller and wife Betty Jean, of Fla., many nieces and nephews, and in-laws, Meche Joy, Shelvy Miller, Carolyn Green, Sonja Fyre and husband Jimmy, Norma Green, Dixie Wolfe and husband Ray, Brenda Grey and husband Tommy, Shelia Pitcock and husband Guy, Bo Green and wife Pam, Jay Williams and wife Laura, Ernie Prince and special niece, Libby Durst and husband Gary, of Jefferson, and special friend, Joan Nicely. She was preceded in death by sisters, Catherine "Libby" Anderson and husband Charles, Jane Prince, Auralie Creamer, Sally Rutherford and husband Marvin, brothers, Richard "Pal" Joy, Roger "Hap" Joy, and William "Bud" Miller, and in-law, Clarence Green and Friend Richard "Dickie" Lowery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 9, 2011, in the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4802 Broadrun Road, Jefferson, MD. The Rev. Edward L. Hartman, will officiate.
