Betty L Grove

Betty (Jackie) L. Grove, 82, of Frederick, died on Monday, July 12, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born on Dec. 11, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles and F. Idella Gearinger Kline. Jackie attended school in Frederick. She went to Frederick Community College and Hood College to further her education for the benefit of so many children she influenced over the years as an early education teacher at her home- based school, Lee Place Nursery Center. "Grovie," who was referred to by "her children" lovingly, was an innovation in pre-school education and set a standard second to none. Her teachings and guidance touched many families over the years. She well be greatly missed by her past pupils and children who came to her day care center. Her contributions to the community were endless. She donated her time and would help children with special needs throughout the years. "Grovie" was always available to parents and children alike. "Grovie" will always have a place in our hearts. Retiring after 50 years, she devoted herself to the care of her sister, Helen Burdette. Betty attended Calvary United Methodist Church and was superintendent for many years. Betty is survived by her son, David C. Grove Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Glen Burnie; and daughter, Patricia Ann Grove Murray and her husband, Don, of Hartford City, Ind. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrew Grove and Patrick Grove of Glen Burnie and Teresa (Kris) Glancy of Hartford City and Todd Murray of Madison, Ind.; and four great-grandchildren whom she adored and doted on, Jacqualine, Jessica and Jason Glancy of Hartford City, Ind., and Trevor Murray of Madison, Ind. Betty is also survived by two brothers, Donald Kline and his wife, Martha, and Charles Kline Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Helen, Mary Miller and Catherine Snyder. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Keeney & Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Harry Cole officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick Grove, Kris Glancy, Jason Glancy, Todd Murray, Trevor Murray and Brian Miller.
