Rena Elizabeth Hall

Mrs. Rena Elizabeth Hall, 92, of Frederick, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at Tranquility Assisted Living. She was the devoted wife of William Albert Hall, who preceded her in death after 57 years of marriage. Born Oct. 25, 1918, Rena was the daughter of the late Ray and Frances Lewis Davis Rena will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She and Albert raised their three daughters, Frances E. Webb (deceased), Barbara K. Bowers, and Vera C. Hawkins, on a dairy farm on New Design Road, until moving to their home in Frederick City. In addition to caring for her family, Rena worked at the Downtowner Cafe and at the Montevue Home, from which she retired. She also attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where for many years she was a member of the "Folding Angels." In addition to her two daughters, Barbara and Vera, and their husbands John W. Bowers and James B. Hawkins, Rena is survived by five grandchildren, Jack Webb, Nanette "Sissy" Keefer and husband Richard, all of Berkeley Springs, Kelly Chmelik and husband Edward, of Thurmont, Denise Coursey and husband Matthew, of Alexandria, Va, and Sherry Heffner and husband George Heffner III, of Frederick; six great-grandchildren, Charlie and Chasity Whittington, Joshua and Brittany Chmelik, George IV and Bradley Heffner; and one great-great grandchild, Albani Cirigliano. She is also survived by two sisters, Catherine Ropp, Frederick and Ruth Bennett, Silver Spring; one brother, Donald Davis, of Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter Frances; infant son William Albert Hall, Jr.; grandson Brian Keith Bowers; three brothers, James Lewis Davis, Clark Lee Davis, and Arthur R. Davis; and sister Marie "Ree" Smith. Known as the "Sunshine of Tranquility" for her warm smile and loving heart, Rena will be remembered by her friends at Tranquility Assisted Living. The family would like to thank: the staff and residents at Tranquility, as well as the staff of Hospice of Frederick County, for all the care and support they provided. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to9pm on Sunday, February 27 at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E Church Street, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 1pm on Monday, February 28. Her pastor, the Rev. Ronald E. Reaves, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
