James &Quot;Jimmy&Quot; W. Harley Jr

Mr. James W. "Jimmy" Harley Jr., 62, of Williamsport, lost his battle with leukemia Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the Martinsburg VA Hospital. Born July 22, 1947, he was the son of James W. (Jim) Harley Sr. and Catherine I. Harley of Yellow Springs. Jimmy is survived by his children: daughter, Robin Harley of Salen, Ohio, and her daughters, Natalie and Lacey; daughter, Melissa (Missy) Lesperance of Moriarty, N.M., and her children, Kaila, Brandon, Faith and Jessie, and Leonardo, and Leonardo's son, Kaila; daughter, Jamie Harley of Frederick, and her children, Tyler, Cameron (Bubbers) and Mackenzie (Buddha); and son, Jason Harley of Waynesboro, Pa., and Jason's son, Trever. He is also survived by a sister, Pat Specht and her husband, Richey Specht, of Yellow Springs, and her children, Teresa (Gruder) Brickhouse and husband, Doug Brickhouse, of Boonsboro, and Aaron Wisner of Frederick. His former wives survive him: Penny Conway, mother of Robin and Melissa; and Carol Harley, mother of Jamie and Jason. Jimmy is also survived by his special dog, Blondie, who was always a comfort to him during his battle with his illness. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Pamela Clark. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served several tours in Southeast Asia, Vietnam and Korea. He suffered injuries during the war and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and also received many medals and badges during his terms served. He was preceded in death by man brothers, sisters and comrades. He befriended many veterans during his illness and time spent at the Martinsburg VA Hospital. During his civilian life, he worked as a high-voltage electrician at Fort Detrick in Frederick. He loved hunting, fishing, canoeing, gardening and especially spending time with and sharing his love of the outdoors with his children, grandchildren and family. He was an avid mushroom hunter and knew exactly where to find them in the mountains of Yellow Springs. He could identify most every tree, plant, bird and fish, holding a high respect for nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed sharing his gardening techniques and life experiences with his friends and family. Special thanks to everyone who helped him through his difficult days during his time at the Martinsburg VA Hospital. Despite his illness, he kept his sense of humor and always brighten everyone's lives with his presence. An abundant garden in heaven shall be tended by him with all the tender loving care possible where he will suffer no more and be at peace with nature. We will truly miss this wonderful man. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, Yellow Springs. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and share their pictures and stories.
