Hazel Virginia Harris

Mrs. Hazel Virginia Harris, 93, a lifelong resident of Frederick County, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard Exodus Harris. Born Dec. 10, 1916, in Della, she was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Harris. She was a very devoted and loving mother who enjoyed baking, gardening and sewing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, who brought great joy to her life. She spent many days preparing delicious meals and desserts for her family. Mrs. Harris worked outside the home for many years for Dr. and Mrs. Martin Lipson, and Dr. and Mrs. Marvin Beitler, all from the Potomac area. She also worked for Mr. and Mrs. John Henry of Darnestown, and Dr. Edward J. Koenigsberg of Virginia. Mrs. Harris is survived by six children, Maynard Harris and wife, Thelma, Reba Singleton, Richard Harris and wife, Myrtelina, Rudy Harris, Jerome Harris and wife, Patty, and Gem Hill; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters, Mabel Harris and Colleen Dawson; one sister-in-law, Louise Harris; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by three sisters, Mae Gates, Mildred Hawkins and Eva Fletcher; and one brother, James Harris. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, April 26, from Kingdom Hall-Jehovah's Witness West, 6706 Carpenter Road, Frederick, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Brother Don Moser. Interment will be in Hope Hill Cemetery. Serving as bearers will be her four sons, Maynard, Richard, Rudy and Jerome Harris, and two grandsons, Joseph Singleton and William Hill.
