Marietta R. Harsher

Mrs. Marietta Ruth Harsher, 90, of Frederick, went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 4, 2011, at the Vindobona Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Q. Harsher, who died on February 24, 2000. Born in Frederick, on February 14, 1921, she was the eldest daughter of the late John M. and Grace Grove Zimmerman. Mrs. Harsher graduated from Frederick High School and then studied retouching of photographs and worked for many photographers, around the Frederick area. Marietta was a lifelong member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren, a member of the "Bydanho" Sunday School Class, the Women's Guild and she was a Deacon of the church. She was also a volunteer of the Frederick Memorial Hospital for over 50 years and was awarded a plaque for volunteering over 10,000 hours. Marietta was a member of the Auxiliary of the John R. Webb Post 3285, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Frederick and also the Auxiliary of the Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11. Surviving her is one son, Keith E. Harsher, of Frederick, a sister, Rebecca Z. Wetzel, of Hagerstown, a brother, John David Zimmerman and wife Naomi, of Frederick, and "granddaughter" Lisa Bradley, of Frederick, also surviving are many nieces and nephews, with a special thanks to John and Debbie Baker for all their love and support. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, March 7, 2011, from the graveside in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Her pastor's The Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey and Rev. Sandi Evans Rogers, will officiate. Those wishing to attend should assemble within the main gate of the cemetery in front of the Francis Scott Key Memorial Chapel by 10:45 AM. Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Online condolences may be shared at keeneybasford.com. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Frederick Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
